Overview

Designed to be used with all types of Bard Access Systems tip location system ("TLS") PICCs, the Sherlock* II TLS accommodates all placement techniques and is completely portable. The Sherlock* II TLS is the first tip location system in the world that is compatible with an ultrasound system.

It operates by detecting the slight magnetic field generated by the pre-loaded stylet in Bard Access Systems PICC kits marked with Sherlock* Logo.

Convenient

  • Now works on Site~Rite* 5/6 Ultrasound Systems
  • Displays real-time catheter tip direction, location and orientation

Accurate

  • Audible and visual signals indicate location of tip position with an accuracy of 1 cm
  • Displays the direction in which the catheter tip is pointing, increasing your confidence that the catheter is properly positioned
  • Helps reduce risks associated with "blind" catheter placement by following the position of the catheter tip

Safe

  • Safe for patients with CRM devices (pacemakers and defibrillator) when IFU is followed
  • No lead aprons or shields required
  • X-ray confirmation can be performed in radiology

Components

Sherlock* Y Sensor Module

Sherlock* II TLS Sensor
The sensor detects magnetic fields generated by the Sherlock* stylet. The Sherlock* II TLS sensor is placed as high up on the chest as possible, right at the base of the neck or as recommended by facility protocols. An external measurement can never exactly duplicate the internal venous anatomy.

Site~Rite* Ultrasound System

Conveniently Works on Site~Rite* 5/6 Ultrasound Systems
Switches from ultrasound to TLS mode, allowing uninterrupted workflow.

Sherlock* II TLS Stand-Alone Screen
Allows visualization of the Sherlock* TLS stylet as it passes under the Sherlock* II TLS sensor during PICC placement. The battery powers the system for up to 4 hours.

Sherlock* TLS Stylet (Pre-Loaded in PICC)
Comes pre-loaded in Sherlock* PICC kits. Generates a magnetic field that is detected by the Sherlock* II TLS sensor.

Sherlock* II TLS Sensor Holder
Holds the Sherlock* II TLS sensor to the patient using a mild adhesive. Sherlock* I TLS sensor holder comes packaged with Sherlock* PICC kits. Sherlock* II TLS sensor holder is sold separately.

Sensor Holster

Sherlock* II TLS Sensor Holster
Mounts on the Site~Rite* 5/6 Ultrasound System roll stand basket and holds the Sherlock* II TLS sensor.

Maintenance

  1. Wipe the sensor after each use according to facility protocol.

Warning: Do not submerge the Sherlock* TLS or allow fluid to enter the display, sensor, A/C adapter or connectors. Damage to the system may occur.
Warning: Do not attempt to sterilize the Sherlock* TLS. Damage to the equipment may occur.
  2. Battery Life
    1. The system run time on a full battery charge of the Sherlock* I TLS battery is approximately 4 hours.
    2. The life of the Sherlock* II TLS stand alone battery is approximately 2.5 hours.
    3. Low battery charge is indicated on the screen by the flashing battery icon.
    4. When battery power is low, the A/C adapter can be used during catheter placement.
    5. The Sherlock* I TLS sensor can be used for approximately 20 minutes after the low battery power indicator (flashing battery icon) is first illuminated.
    6. To recharge the battery fully, connect the A/C adapter to the Sherlock* TLS display. The battery power indicator on the screen will display bars to represent the battery charge.
